P0E80: Coolant Bypass Valve B Control Stuck Closed

P0E80 reports that bypass valve B has stayed shut although flow through it is requested. Stellantis gives the criterion for the Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid (2021 to 2023): the code sets once engine coolant and the inlet of the electric coolant heater differ by more than 40 °F, about 22 K. Its service case S2208000205 and bulletin 07-006-23 (cars built on 4 June 2022) trace this to hoses on the three-way valve that were fitted one port off; drivers notice a lit check engine light and at times no heat, and the fix is rerouting the hoses using the marks on the valve. On the 2022 to 2023 Pacifica plug-in hybrid, bulletin 07-008-23 blames a valve clogged by machining debris and replaces it. CARB covers such outputs under functional monitoring. P0E7F is the open counterpart.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Watch the temperature gauge. If it climbs or a warning appears, stop the car in a safe place and turn off the engine: overheating can cause serious damage.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Intermittent loss of cabin heat
  • Electric mode may be disabled

Most likely causes

  • Hoses at the three-way valve shifted by one port (Wrangler 4xe, bulletin 07-006-23)
  • Valve blocked by machining debris (Pacifica Hybrid, bulletin 07-008-23)
  • Valve B actuator seized in the closed position

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0E80 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • E: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 80: Specific fault in that system
