P2013 points to a control line of the bank 2 flap actuator that sits too high, i.e. a short to battery voltage or an actuator whose winding has shorted so the driver sees supply where it expects a load. No manufacturer documents P2013 publicly. The logic can be taken from bank 1, where GM checks P2010 as a resistance to supply below 0.5 Ω and Saab's 2010 9-5 diesel uses it for the swirl solenoid control shorted to voltage. CARB requires circuit faults of such output components to be watched continuously, and runner systems are named among the outputs to monitor. Ford's V engines report bank 2 only as P2011, so a P2013 is more likely on other makes with one actuator per bank. Checking the wiring with the actuator unplugged usually separates harness from actuator. The flaps on that bank then stay in their rest position.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? You can drive in moderation. Get it repaired soon, because a loose flap can cause major damage on some engines.
Bank 2 is the side without cylinder 1, so it only exists on V or boxer engines.
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on
- Bank 2 flaps no longer switch
Most likely causes
- Bank 2 control wire shorted to a supply wire
- Shorted winding in the bank 2 actuator
- Engine control module output stage faulty
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2013 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 13: Specific fault in that system
