P2035 reports that the signal of temperature sensor 2 on bank 2 has dropped below its plausible floor. Whether that is a short or an open depends on the sensor curve: with a thermistor pulled up by the control unit a grounded wire drags the voltage down, whereas some circuits read near zero when the loop is broken. No manufacturer documents P2035 publicly. Deutz, the one maker found using this sensor slot, keeps the short to ground under P2034-11 instead. The bank 1 counterpart P2032 shows typical limits: GM's 2018 diesels fail below a resistance equivalent of 142 ohms as a Type B code (MIL after two trips). CARB requires such out-of-range checks for every emission-relevant input. Expect the dosing or regeneration strategy that relies on this reading to be cut back.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the light is on steadily, take a highway drive or go to a repair shop soon. If the car is in limp mode or the light is flashing, do not push the engine.
Bank 2 is the side without cylinder 1, so it only exists on V or boxer engines.
Symptoms
- Engine warning lamp on
- Temperature reading on bank 2 implausibly low or at the limit
- Regeneration or DEF dosing limited
Most likely causes
- Signal wire chafed through to ground on the exhaust or frame
- Internal short in the sensing element
- Water bridging the connector pins
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2035 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 35: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep driving with code P2035?
If the light is on steadily, take a highway drive or go to a repair shop soon. If the car is in limp mode or the light is flashing, do not push the engine.
What causes code P2035?
The most common causes are: signal wire chafed through to ground on the exhaust or frame; internal short in the sensing element; water bridging the connector pins.
