P2057 is the short-to-ground case for the second DEF injector of Bank 2. As with P2056 and P2058, it exists in the code list for engines with two exhaust banks and two dosing points each, yet no manufacturer publishes a calibration or service bulletin for it. Analogous logic is documented for Bank 1: GM's 2025 diesel table flags a low-side ground short at metering valve 2 (P2054) after 30 out of 60 samples, Type A, and the Deutz EMR5 list describes failure type 11 for that position. Likely culprits are a harness clamped against the frame or an exhaust bracket, shorted coil windings and DEF residue in the connector. Because the output stage switches the valve off, its catalyst segment converts noticeably less NOx.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Deal with it soon. If the instrument cluster shows a countdown, the car may not restart once it reaches zero.
Bank 2 is the side without cylinder 1, so it only exists on V or boxer engines.
Symptoms
- MIL on
- Valve switched off, NOx conversion reduced
Most likely causes
- Harness clamped against frame or exhaust bracket
- Shorted windings in the injector coil
- DEF residue in the connector
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2057 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 57: Specific fault in that system
