P2061: Reductant Injection Air Pump Control Circuit High

P2061 is the high-side counterpart: the pump or valve output that feeds atomizing air carries voltage when the controller expects it to be off, or the diagnostic sees a level that only a connection to battery positive can explain. Deutz documents it on the EMR L1 controller as P2061-00, short circuit to battery on the high side (SPN 5796). The consequence can be the reverse of P2060: the valve may stay energised and keep blowing air through the dosing unit even when no DEF is wanted, which wastes compressed air, while the controller still blocks dosing because it has lost control of the output. Typical are a wire pinched against a powered cable in the same loom or a damaged connector. Open circuits belong to P2059.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Deal with it soon. If the instrument cluster shows a countdown, the car may not restart once it reaches zero.

Symptoms

  • Emission warning lamp on
  • Air valve may run continuously, air system loses pressure
  • DEF dosing blocked

Most likely causes

  • Control wire shorted to a powered cable in the loom
  • Damaged connector with bridged pins
  • Output stage in the controller failed

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2061 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 61: Specific fault in that system
