P212B: Throttle Position Sensor/Switch G Circuit Range/Performance

P212B means throttle signal G is electrically valid but its value does not fit. GM's 2023 table 23OBDG07 applies it to sensor 2 of the bank 2 throttle body on a twin-throttle engine: the code sets when the angle derived from sensor 2 differs from that of sensor 1 by more than about 5-6.25 %, or from the angle modelled from manifold pressure by more than 9 %, in one trip; the 2024 table repeats the check. Nissan uses P212B on the 2021-2023 Rogue with the 1.5 L KR15DDT engine; bulletin NTB23-021 cures a lit MIL without drivability complaints by ECM reprogramming. Circuit faults are P212A and P212C-P212E. Depending on the cause the engine may run normally or limit power.

High severity. Can I keep driving?Be careful: the car may suddenly lose power. If it goes into limp mode, get off the highway and calmly make your way to a repair shop.

Symptoms

  • MIL on, often without noticeable driving problems
  • Reduced power if the plausibility fault persists
  • Uneven idle on twin-throttle engines

Most likely causes

  • ECM software setting the code without a real fault (update available)
  • Sensor G drifted or worn, disagreeing with its partner sensor
  • Deposits or sticking plate making the angle disagree with airflow
  • Contact resistance at the throttle body connector

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P212B means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 1: Air and fuel
  • 2B: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

What causes code P212B?

The most common causes are: eCM software setting the code without a real fault (update available); sensor G drifted or worn, disagreeing with its partner sensor; deposits or sticking plate making the angle disagree with airflow.
