P216D is the general fault of injector group F, which GM petrol direct injection equates with cylinder 6; its 2024 tables (24OBDG07) call it injector F. GM uses this code for shorts on the high side rather than opens: the 2008 3.6 LLT sets it for cylinder 6 shorted to ground or battery, while an open on either side goes to P0206; the 2024 tables count two events of less than 0.5 ohm to ground or supply, above 9 V, one trip. Two bulletins name it. PIP4924D covers 3.0 and 3.6 V6 models such as Enclave, Traverse, CTS and Camaro with chafed injector harnesses. Bulletin 24-NA-106 for the 2023 and 2024 Corvette with the LT6 lists P216D as cylinder 6 alongside P2149, P2155 and P217D, all bank 2, caused by water in a wrong 12-way connector.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and go to a repair shop. If you smell fuel or the engine is shaking badly, do not keep driving.
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on, cylinder 6 misfire
- With the LT6 several bank 2 codes and fuel pressure faults at once
Most likely causes
- Injector harness rubbed through on V6 engines
- Water in the bank 2 injector harness connector (Corvette LT6)
- Cylinder 6 injector shorted
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: hard
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P216D means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 1: Air and fuel
- 6D: Specific fault in that system
