P2262: Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Pressure A Not Detected - Mechanical

P2262 says boost pressure A does not appear at all although the charging system should be producing it, and the cause appears to be mechanical rather than a sensor fault. The control unit sees the pressure after the compressor stay near ambient or close to manifold pressure. VW's 2014 book for the supercharged Touareg 3.0 TSI uses the ratio of boost to manifold pressure and flags it below a band of 1 to 1.25. Volvo technical journal 31319 (2016 four-cylinder B4204T23) traced P2262 together with P02CD to a fresh-air hose that had slipped off the air filter housing at the MAF; a spring clamp prevents a repeat. Unlike P0299, which measures a shortfall against the target, P2262 stands for boost missing altogether; P2263 rates overall control performance and P226B the opposite extreme. Acceleration feels flat, and many engines limit torque.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive without demanding power and go to a repair shop soon. If you see a lot of blue smoke or hear a metallic noise, shut off the engine.

Symptoms

  • Clear loss of power, no turbo or supercharger pull
  • MIL on, often with a reduced-power mode
  • Hissing or whistling from the intake if a hose has come off

Most likely causes

  • Intake or charge-air hose disconnected or split, so the compressor cannot build pressure
  • Wastegate or bypass stuck open, corroded or with a broken linkage
  • Damaged turbocharger or supercharger (bearing wear, broken drive, wheel damage)
  • Boost pressure sensor or its hose blocked or detached

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2262 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 2: Fuel injection
  • 62: Specific fault in that system
