P2267 reports that the signal of water-in-fuel sensor A sits above its valid range, which usually indicates an open signal or ground path, a disconnected sensor or a short to a voltage source. Stellantis has a case file for 2025 and 2026 Ram 2500 to 5500 trucks with the Cummins 6.7L: after the fuel filter module has been drained, the warning lamp may stay on with P2267 and P2269. Instead of replacing parts, technicians drain both filter stages, remove the sensor, wipe residue off its probes, refit it at 3 Nm and prime the system with the lift pump. That points to the sensor reacting to leftover contamination as well as to wiring. P2266 is the low-side counterpart, P2268 the intermittent version.
Low severity. Can I keep driving? You can normally keep driving. If it affects the fuel level, do not trust the gauge and refuel earlier than usual.
Symptoms
- Water-in-fuel lamp stays on after draining
- Often appears together with P2269
Most likely causes
- Residual contamination on the probes after draining the filter
- Unplugged sensor or open signal or ground wire
- Signal wire shorted to a supply voltage
- Defective water-in-fuel sensor
