P2294 is the open-circuit check of the drive line to fuel pressure regulator B. GM's 2018 diesel ECM tests the low-side driver of the rail pressure regulator valve while the output is switched off: a voltage indicating more than 200 kΩ between signal and ground counts as open, and 44 failures in 88 samples at 6.25 ms set the code as Type B. VW's 2014 Passat quick reference uses a signal voltage between 1.40 and 3.20 V or an implausible signal pattern. Broken wires, a pushed-back connector pin or an interrupted valve coil are the usual findings. Without control of the valve the ECM cannot release rail pressure as intended and may limit power. P2295 and P2296 split shorts to ground and to supply.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Avoid long trips and hard acceleration. If you smell fuel or the car stalls, do not continue.
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Reduced power or emergency mode
- Unstable idle or hard starting
Most likely causes
- Broken wire in the regulator harness
- Loose, corroded or pushed-back connector pin
- Open coil in the pressure regulator valve
- Faulty output driver in the engine control module
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
