P22D7: Turbocharger Turbine Inlet Valve Position Sensor Circuit High

P22D7 is logged when the position signal of the turbine inlet valve rises above its highest valid voltage. A reading pinned near the reference level usually comes from an open sensor ground, a signal wire touching the 5-volt reference or battery voltage, or a failed sensor element, not from the valve itself. Like its low-voltage counterpart P22D6, this is a pure circuit check that runs continuously and does not depend on load. Without valid feedback, the module can no longer run the valve in position control as described in the GM two-stage patent, so it typically fixes the valve and limits boost. No manufacturer publicly documents P22D7. Inspecting the ground pin and wiring near the hot exhaust side usually finds the fault faster than swapping the actuator.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive without demanding power and go to a repair shop soon. If you see a lot of blue smoke or hear a metallic noise, shut off the engine.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced power, valve held in fallback position

Most likely causes

  • Open or high-resistance sensor ground
  • Signal wire shorted to the 5-volt reference or battery voltage
  • Internal failure of the position sensor

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P22D7 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 2: Fuel injection
  • D7: Specific fault in that system
