P2307: Ignition Coil C Primary Control Circuit High

P2307 sets when the coil C control line, cylinder 3 in most layouts, is shorted to a voltage source. On GM's 3.6-litre LLT V6 (2008) the check is a continuity test against voltage that runs below 6,000 rpm with the battery between 9.99 and 18.1 V and needs 4 s at a stretch or 50 s in total. Do not trust the letter blindly on Ford: special service message 52342 for the 2021–2024 Bronco 2.3 and 3.0 EcoBoost explains that the PCM may file P2307 and its neighbours under the wrong cylinder, while still cutting fuel to the cylinder it has blamed. Ford's advice is a power balance test with its scan tool; the cylinder that drops out without a code of its own is the one to repair. Saab's Trionic 8 treats an open line on cylinder 3 as P2307 as well.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible. If you feel jerking or the light flashes, stop: a misfire can damage the catalytic converter.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Cylinder 3 misfires
  • Power loss, engine runs rough

Most likely causes

  • Coil C control wire touching a battery-voltage line
  • Coil C with an internal short to its supply
  • Code filed against the wrong cylinder by PCM software (Ford Bronco SSM 52342)
  • Broken control wire on systems reporting opens here (Saab Trionic 8)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2307 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 3: Ignition and misfires
  • 07: Specific fault in that system
