P2313 reports that the control line of coil E, cylinder 5, is shorted to positive, and therefore needs an engine with at least five cylinders. Saab spells out the conditions for its 9-5 2.8 V6 (LAU, 2011): engine running at 400–5,000 rpm with 10–18 V, a check on every crank revolution once 20 have passed, and a fault after more than 4 s or 30 s in total; P2313 is a Type B code. Saab adds a practical warning: aftermarket gadgets spliced into the coil wiring can set it. Ford bulletin 24-2406 includes P2313 for the 3.0 EcoBoost V6 in 2022–2024 Bronco models built up to 13 February 2024, where a PCM reprogram corrects the cylinder assignment. VW's 2014 Passat five-cylinder tables count anything above about 5.1–7.0 V on the line as high.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible. If you feel jerking or the light flashes, stop: a misfire can damage the catalytic converter.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Cylinder 5 misfiring
- Hesitation and jerking under load
Most likely causes
- Coil E internally shorted to supply
- Aftermarket device spliced into the coil wiring (Saab LAU note)
- Coil E control wire touching a 12 V line
- PCM cylinder mapping error (Ford Bronco 3.0, TSB 24-2406)
