P2319 sets when the coil G control line, belonging to cylinder 7 of a V8 or larger engine, shows a short to voltage. GM's 2019 tables include it for the LT5 Corvette V8 as a Type B code with 50 of 63 failed samples. Ford describes the protective reaction in detail: after a coil-driver fault the injector of that cylinder stays off for 30 s; on six- and eight-cylinder engines as many as two cylinders can be shut off at the same time. After the pause the injector is switched on again, and if the fault returns within about 0.1 s fuel is cut once more. Message 52455 from Ford (2024) on 6.8 and 7.3-litre trucks lists P2319 with the other codes that may point to the wrong cylinder; the real culprit is the cylinder that drops out in the power balance test without a code of its own.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible. If you feel jerking or the light flashes, stop: a misfire can damage the catalytic converter.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Cylinder 7 shut off for periods of 30 s (Ford)
- Rough running and loss of power
Most likely causes
- Coil G control wire shorted to a supply line
- Internal fault in coil G
- Code assigned to the wrong cylinder by PCM software (Ford SSM 52455)
- Engine module output stage defective
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2319 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 3: Ignition and misfires
- 19: Specific fault in that system
