P2322 is the counterpart to P2321: the coil H control line, cylinder 8 on most V8 layouts, reads as if it were tied to voltage. GM monitors it the same way on the 2019 LT5 and L84 engines, as a Type B code, flagged once 50 of 63 samples fail. Ford names P2322 in two special service messages from 2024: SSM 52455 for 6.8 and 7.3-litre petrol trucks (Super Duty, F-53/F-59, E-Series, F-650/750) and SSM 52342 for the Bronco. Both say the PCM may file the code under the wrong cylinder and will cut fuel to the cylinder it blames; a power balance test shows the cylinder that genuinely drops out. Ford's OBD summaries add that fuel to the affected cylinder stays off for 30 s and is cut again as soon as the fault reappears. GM PIP5147 also covers P2322 on 2014 trucks.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible. If you feel jerking or the light flashes, stop: a misfire can damage the catalytic converter.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- One cylinder repeatedly shut off for about 30 s (Ford)
- Noticeable vibration and loss of power
Most likely causes
- Coil H control wire shorted to a voltage-carrying line
- Coil H defective internally
- PCM assigns the code to the wrong cylinder (Ford SSM 52455/52342)
- Output stage in the engine module faulty
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2322 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 3: Ignition and misfires
- 22: Specific fault in that system
