P245E: Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor B Circuit

Which sensor is B depends on the maker. Ford's 2013 6.7 L Power Stroke has an exhaust pressure sensor ahead of the filter as A and a two-port differential sensor across it as B. Despite its circuit title, P245E is there an offset test during after-run, with the key off and the controller still awake: since no gas flows, the differential reading should be zero, and more than 1 kPa for one second sets the code. On Ford's 2024 gasoline particulate filters with digital SENT sensors, P245E is the general circuit fault, detected within 5 s, while lost communication with the same sensor is U0602. So a sensor that drifted, a hose still holding pressure or water inside the sensor can set it as easily as a wiring fault. Low and high signals have their own codes, P2460 and P2461, and erratic signals P2462.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the light is on steadily, take a highway drive or go to a repair shop soon. If the car is in limp mode or the light is flashing, do not push the engine.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp on
  • Soot load estimate unreliable, regeneration timing affected

Most likely causes

  • Sensor B offset drifted or moisture inside the sensor
  • Pressure hose kinked or blocked so pressure is trapped
  • Wiring or connector fault on the sensor B circuit

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P245E means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 4: Emissions
  • 5E: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions
