P245F: Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor B Circuit Range/Performance

With P245F the controller decides that the sensor B value is electrically fine but makes no physical sense. Ford's 2024 gasoline strategy runs three such tests on the B sensor of the gasoline particulate filter: an offset check with the engine stopped that fails once the average reaches 16 to 32 hPa; a rationality check that fails when the reading stays at or above the pressure expected for the current exhaust flow for a total of 20 s; and a derivative check that compares how fast pressure follows a change in flow over 2 s. Jeep released PCM software for 2018 Wranglers with a gasoline filter in Asia-Pacific and EMEA markets that set P245F together with P2453. Deutz assigns P245F to the pressure after the filter leaving its physical limits. Hoses, condensate and sensor drift are the usual suspects. Circuit codes are P245E, P2460 and P2461.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the light is on steadily, take a highway drive or go to a repair shop soon. If the car is in limp mode or the light is flashing, do not push the engine.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp on
  • Filter regeneration triggered too early, too late or blocked

Most likely causes

  • Sensor B hose cracked, disconnected or blocked
  • Condensate in the pressure line falsifying the reading
  • Sensor B drifted out of calibration
  • Control software needing an update (some Jeep models)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: easy
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P245F means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 4: Emissions
  • 5F: Specific fault in that system
