P2562: Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor A Circuit

P2562 flags a general electrical problem in the circuit of the position sensor that reports where turbocharger boost actuator A stands - the variable vane linkage on many diesels, the electric wastegate actuator on turbo petrol engines. The engine computer receives a signal it cannot use at all, as opposed to a wrong position (P2563), a signal pinned low or high (P2564/P2565) or brief dropouts (P2566). Kia service actions SA078 and SA119A for the 2011 and 2012 Optima with the 2.0 T-GDI engine name P2562 together with P2565; the fix is to read the actuator position voltage with the scan tool and reset the rod length of the electronic wastegate actuator. With the code present, boost is usually cut back and the warning lamp is lit.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive without demanding power and go to a repair shop soon. If you see a lot of blue smoke or hear a metallic noise, shut off the engine.

Symptoms

  • Reduced power because boost is limited
  • Check engine light on
  • P2565 stored at the same time on some engines

Most likely causes

  • Open or corroded wiring or connector between position sensor and engine computer
  • Electronic wastegate actuator rod length out of adjustment
  • Position sensor inside the actuator failed

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2562 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 5: Speed and idle
  • 62: Specific fault in that system
