P25DA: Fuel Level Sensor C Circuit High

P25DA is set when the third sender's signal climbs above the top of its valid range. On a resistor sender fed through a pull-up, that almost always means an open path: a broken wire, a disconnected plug, a burnt-out spot on the resistor track or a missing ground return. A short to a voltage source has the same effect. No manufacturer documents P25DA publicly. The sender A counterpart gives an idea of the limits used: Ford flags the high fault when resistance exceeds 200 ohms, corresponding to more than 253 A/D counts, for 30 s (P0463). CARB requires out-of-range monitoring for fuel level inputs. Unlike P25D9, the cause here is usually an interruption rather than a short, so connectors and the harness at the tank deserve the first look. The gauge will usually rest at one end.

Low severity. Can I keep driving? You can normally keep driving. If it affects the fuel level, do not trust the gauge and refuel earlier than usual.

Symptoms

  • Gauge stuck at one end of the scale
  • Check engine lamp on

Most likely causes

  • Broken signal or ground wire to sender C
  • Tank connector loose or unplugged after work on the tank
  • Interrupted resistor track inside sender C
  • Signal wire shorted to a voltage supply

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P25DA means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 5: Speed and idle
  • DA: Specific fault in that system
