P2664 signals excessive voltage on the control line of solenoid B, bank 2. Contact with a powered conductor, for example where several solenoid and injector feeds share a connector, or a driver that can no longer pull the line down, are the typical causes. Depending on how the output is wired, the valve may then be energised all the time, keeping stage B on that bank engaged, or not work at all. No manufacturer publishes P2664 or a threshold for it. GM monitors the corresponding A circuits on its 2015 four-cylinders with a Type A driver test above 11 V, which shows the usual approach. CARB lists shorts to power among circuit faults that lift system outputs must detect. Compare P2663 for a low reading, P2660 for an open and P2654 on bank 1.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the car is running normally, drive in moderation to a repair shop. If it loses power or another warning appears, do not continue.
Bank 2 is the side without cylinder 1, so it only exists on V or boxer engines.
Symptoms
- MIL on
- Misfire or rough idle on bank 2 if the stage stays engaged
Most likely causes
- Short to a powered feed inside a shared engine connector
- Output driver in the control module stuck off
- Internally shorted solenoid B on bank 2
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2664 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 6: Control modules and outputs
- 64: Specific fault in that system
