P26EE: Engine Sound Control B Circuit High

For the second sound actuator, P26EE signals a drive circuit carrying more voltage than expected, i.e. a short to battery positive or a feed coming back from a damaged actuator. Because the line is then powered from elsewhere, flap B may hold its position no matter what the driver selects. P26EE is not published by any maker; for orientation there are only the A codes in Ford's 2014 list and the exhaust valve driver checks in Ford's later summaries, which report output faults through a smart driver. When diagnosing, compare the B line with the unswitched supply wires running beside it and test the actuator off the car. Engine behaviour and emissions in normal driving are generally unchanged.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the car is running normally, drive in moderation to a repair shop. If it loses power or another warning appears, do not continue.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Second flap stuck in one position

Most likely causes

  • Actuator B wire in contact with a positive supply wire
  • Damaged actuator B feeding voltage back
  • Faulty output stage for circuit B in the module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P26EE means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 6: Control modules and outputs
  • EE: Specific fault in that system
