P2722: Pressure Control Solenoid E

P2722 is the base code for pressure control solenoid E and leaves the type of fault open. No manufacturer documents P2722 publicly. The pattern can be seen on the neighbouring valve: Toyota stores P2713 for solenoid D with a failure type byte appended, so a scan tool would show the same structure for E. GM and Ford instead publish dedicated codes for E, from P2723 (stuck off) and P2724 (stuck on) to P2727, P2729 and P2730 for the circuit. On GM's eight-speed valve E feeds clutch 5, on its nine-speed the C5 clutch, on the Allison 1000 the solenoid GM calls PCS 1, and on the 2023 Corvette and Ford TR9070 dual-clutch units the line pressure pilot valve. CARB covers such solenoids as comprehensive components.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • MIL lit with possible further transmission codes
  • Irregular shifting or fail-safe gear
  • Engagement delay into drive or reverse

Most likely causes

  • Solenoid E sticking or failing
  • Wiring or connector problem on the solenoid E circuit
  • Contaminated or low transmission fluid
  • TCM fault

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2722 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • 22: Specific fault in that system
