P2762 covers a solenoid circuit that is neither open nor shorted but does not behave as commanded. In GM's six-speed TCM tables for the MW7 (2016) and T87A (2018) the module compares desired with measured solenoid current; a gap of 0.5 A or more in at least 40 of fewer than 80 samples sets the code as Type B, with battery voltage above 10 V. For the T76 six-speed of 2016, GM instead calls it a rationality test that fails when the hardware layer reports an out-of-range voltage in 4.4 of 5 seconds, and lists it without MIL. Rising coil resistance, a weak supply or ground, or a current-sensing fault in the TCM are typical. Lockup may feel harsh or soft, since the pressure no longer follows the target.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.
Symptoms
- Harsh or slipping converter lockup
- Shudder at light throttle in higher gears
- Warning lamp depending on application (GM T76 none)
Most likely causes
- Solenoid coil resistance out of specification
- Weak supply voltage or poor ground at the TCM
- High-resistance terminal in the circuit
- Current sensing fault inside the TCM
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2762 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 7: Transmission
- 62: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep driving with code P2762?
