P2B2F: Fan 1 Performance/Stuck Off

Unlike the circuit codes P0480, P0691 and P0692, P2B2F judges the result: radiator fan 1 is commanded on but does not deliver, up to not turning at all. Detection uses fan speed feedback from a PWM or LIN fan module, or the missing temperature drop when the fan should be cooling. FCA lists P2B2F-00 with the MIL for the 2017–2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia and 2018 Stelvio with the 2.0 L turbo four (EC2) in bulletins 18-097-19 and 18-026-20, among other codes fixed by a PCM software update; no thresholds are published. CARB requires output components such as fans to be checked for proper functional response. Beyond software, a seized motor, debris in the blades or a failed fan module are the usual finds. Overheating in traffic and weak A/C at idle follow. The stuck-on case is P2B30.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Watch the temperature gauge. If it climbs or a warning appears, stop the car in a safe place and turn off the engine: overheating can cause serious damage.

Symptoms

  • MIL
  • Rising coolant temperature in slow traffic
  • Weak air conditioning at standstill

Most likely causes

  • Fan 1 motor worn or seized, or blades blocked by debris
  • Fan control module or relay not switching the motor
  • Engine software judging the fan wrongly (FCA 2.0 L)
  • Poor power feed or ground at the fan

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2B2F means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • B: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 2F: Specific fault in that system
