P2B30: Fan 1 Stuck On

P2B30 states that radiator fan 1 does not follow the command to stop or to change speed, as judged from its speed feedback or module diagnosis. The classic electrical background is a welded relay contact or a fan module that keeps driving the motor. Audi uses the code on the 2022–2024 e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, stored in thermal management J1024 (address 00C5) as symptom 59328: road dirt and stones entering through the wheel housing liner grille block the fan mechanically, so commanded and reported operation no longer match. Owners notice weak cabin heating or cooling, less drive power or a battery that will not charge fully. Audi fits revised fans, shrouds, liners and protective caps. CARB requires fan outputs to respond correctly to commands. Fan 2 has P2B32, the stuck-off case of fan 1 is P2B2F.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Watch the temperature gauge. If it climbs or a warning appears, stop the car in a safe place and turn off the engine: overheating can cause serious damage.

Symptoms

  • Fan keeps running after switch-off, draining the 12 V battery
  • Weak cabin heating or cooling on electric vehicles
  • Grinding noise from the front wheel area

Most likely causes

  • Road debris jamming the fan (Audi e-tron GT)
  • Fan relay contacts welded closed
  • Fan control module ignoring the off command

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2B30 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • B: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 30: Specific fault in that system
