P060B: Internal Control Module A/D Processing Performance

The analog-to-digital converter turns every analog sensor voltage into a number, so a faulty converter can falsify many values at once. The module checks it by timing its start-up calibration (GM 6.6 L diesel: 0.30 s or longer is a fault), by converting fixed internal reference voltages (about 4.73–4.83 V must be read), by grounding a test channel that must then read near 0 V (Ford diesel: over 249 mV is a fault) and by comparing with a second converter. GM sets it in the first trip, Ford with the check engine and wrench lamps as a level 3 check; the module usually enters limp mode. Ford fixed an F-150 2.7 L case (with misfire codes) by reprogramming. GM also uses P060B in the brake module – then ABS warnings appear and the engine module is not the culprit. The old wording 'A and D' simply spelled out 'A/D'.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? It depends on the symptoms. If the car is running normally you can go to a repair shop; if it goes into limp mode, drive as little as possible.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light, at Ford also the wrench lamp
  • Reduced power or limp mode
  • Several sensor or misfire codes at the same time
  • ABS/ESC warning if the brake module set the code

Most likely causes

  • Faulty module software (update available)
  • Unstable supply voltage or poor ground at the module (weak battery, voltage spikes)
  • Internal defect of the converter or its chip
  • Shorted sensor input pulling the converter reference

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P060B means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 6: Control modules and outputs
  • 0B: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep driving with code P060B?

It depends on the symptoms. If the car is running normally you can go to a repair shop; if it goes into limp mode, drive as little as possible.

What causes code P060B?

The most common causes are: faulty module software (update available); unstable supply voltage or poor ground at the module (weak battery, voltage spikes); internal defect of the converter or its chip.
