P060C: Internal Control Module Main Processor Performance

P060C reports a fault in the main processor that actually runs the engine, found either by the monitoring processor (Ford 'quizzer', level 3) or by duplicate storage and recalculation (GM). Typical findings are corrupted RAM or ROM data, arithmetic unit errors, memory address violations, a wrong program sequence or internal supply or temperature out of range (Ford diesel: internal voltage outside 1.3–3.3 V, 5 s). GM's 2025 petrol table flags a torque compensation outside ±52.9 Nm for 475 ms and sets the code in the first trip. Reactions range from reduced power to engine shutdown. Software is the most common cause: GM (2022 full-size trucks and SUVs), VW (Tiguan 2021, with cruise control faults), Nissan and Mercedes (transmission module, E-Class hybrid) fixed it by reprogramming.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? It depends on the symptoms. If the car is running normally you can go to a repair shop; if it goes into limp mode, drive as little as possible.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced power or limp mode
  • Driver assistance such as adaptive cruise unavailable
  • Rarely stalling or no start
  • Transmission limp mode if the transmission module is affected

Most likely causes

  • Faulty module software (update available)
  • Unstable supply voltage or poor ground at the module (weak battery, voltage spikes)
  • Internal hardware defect (memory, processor)
  • Overheating or moisture in the module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P060C means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 6: Control modules and outputs
  • 0C: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions
