P0811 means clutch A slips too much while it should be closed – on a dual-clutch gearbox clutch 1 with the odd gears. The module compares engine speed with the input shaft speed of the closed clutch; thresholds are not published. Audi's seven-speed S tronic DL382 (A4 to A7 and Q5, 2020–24) sets it intermittently together with P081E and input speed sensor codes, partly also clutch temperature too high; the cause was the transmission module calculating wrong slip, and the fix was a new module. Genuine slip from wear or overheating shows as flaring take-off and burnt fluid. The module limits torque, may lock out the affected half and go to limp mode.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.
Symptoms
- Transmission warning, limp mode
- Engine flares, poor acceleration
- Judder on take-off
- Burning smell
Most likely causes
- Transmission module calculating wrong slip (speed capture)
- Clutch worn or overheated
- Fluid burnt or wrong (wet clutch)
- Clutch pressure or actuator too low
- Input speed sensor faulty
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
