P08DD: Shift Solenoid K Control Circuit/Open

Signals that the control circuit of shift solenoid K is open, so commanding the valve produces no current: a broken wire, a pushed-out terminal, a burnt coil or a failed internal transmission harness. No manufacturer documents this code publicly. Ford handles opens through the base code of each solenoid, P0750 for solenoid A, while GM's tables fold them into the circuit-high code P0974, so a separate open code like this one stays unused in both systems. CARB requires transmission outputs to be checked for opens. P08DB and P08DC are the short-circuit codes, P08D8 the general electrical fault. Without power the valve stays in its rest position, so one gear range drops out.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Some gears no longer available
  • Limp mode with fixed gear

Most likely causes

  • Broken wire or pushed-out terminal
  • Failed internal transmission harness
  • Burnt-out solenoid coil

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P08DD means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 8: Transmission
  • DD: Specific fault in that system
