P0A2B: Drive Motor A Temperature Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

This is the rationality check: after a long soak, motor A's temperature should match other temperatures in the drive. GM compares it with the average inverter module temperature on its 2013 two-mode trucks and sets P0A2B, Type B, if they differ by more than 28 °C after at least 360 minutes off; the 2011 table uses 20 °C against coolant and transmission fluid, the 2013 MGU mild hybrid 25 °C. Hyundai's Sonata Hybrid bulletin lists the code with resistance specs for the NTC; Audi pairs it on the A7 e quattro with P0A2E and a worn connector. McLaren also files over-temperature under P0A2B98. P0A2C/P0A2D are hard electrical faults, P0A2F real heat. Expect reduced electric power.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system warning or check engine light
  • Electric drive power limited
  • Motor temperature far off from other temperatures after a cold soak

Most likely causes

  • Thermistor drifted out of its resistance curve
  • Added resistance from a worn or corroded connector (Audi A7 e quattro)
  • Fault in a reference temperature such as inverter or fluid temperature
  • Motor cooling problem that makes a real temperature look implausible

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0A2B means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • 2B: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep driving with code P0A2B?

If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

What causes code P0A2B?

The most common causes are: thermistor drifted out of its resistance curve; added resistance from a worn or corroded connector (Audi A7 e quattro); fault in a reference temperature such as inverter or fluid temperature.
