P0A2D: Drive Motor A Temperature Sensor A Circuit High

With an NTC thermistor, a high signal voltage stands for a cold motor, and a voltage close to the 5 V pull-up means the circuit is open. GM sets P0A2D on its 2013 two-mode trucks when the reading falls below -40 °C, Type B over two trips; if the fault is already present at start-up it waits until the motor has warmed up under load for at least 1.5 minutes. The 2011 table uses -41 °C, the 2013 MGU mild hybrid -48 °C with torque above 10 Nm. Typical causes are a broken signal or ground wire, an unplugged connector or an open sensor. Hyundai checks the sensor resistance at the transaxle connector. P0A2C is the low-voltage counterpart. Motor protection is lost, so electric power is limited.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system warning or check engine light
  • Motor temperature shows about -40 degrees in live data
  • Electric drive power limited

Most likely causes

  • Open signal or ground wire of the motor temperature sensor
  • Connector unplugged or terminal pushed out, often after drive unit work
  • Thermistor open inside the motor or transaxle
  • Signal wire shorted to a supply voltage

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0A2D means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • 2D: Specific fault in that system
