P0ABD: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense A Circuit High

The counterpart to P0ABC: the pack voltage reading is above the highest value the battery could physically reach, which suggests an open reference, a failed divider or a damaged input rather than real overcharging. GM's 2016 and 2019 hybrid tables set P0ABD above 392 V, again with 8 failed samples out of 10 at 25 ms intervals and Type A, so the MIL comes on immediately. For the smaller pack in its 2013 table the limit is 190.1 V, with 7 of 10 samples and Type B. Range and plausibility problems are reported by P0ABB, the low limit by P0ABC. The vehicle typically limits or blocks electric operation until the fault is cleared.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system or check engine warning on
  • Electric drive limited or unavailable

Most likely causes

  • Open ground or reference side of the sense circuit
  • Voltage divider component failed in the battery controller
  • Battery controller measurement input defective

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0ABD means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • BD: Specific fault in that system
