P0ABC: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense A Circuit Low

P0ABC is stored when the pack voltage sensor reports a value below anything the battery could really have, pointing to a short to ground or a lost sense signal rather than a discharged pack. GM's 2016 and 2019 hybrid tables set it below 4.8 V with system voltage above 10.2 V, after 8 failed samples out of 10 taken every 25 ms, and rate it Type A with MIL on the first trip. The 2013 table for an earlier hybrid uses a limit of 30 V, 7 of 10 samples and Type B. A real deep discharge is handled by other codes such as P0AFA. Because the controller no longer trusts pack voltage, hybrid operation is restricted or the vehicle will not go ready.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system or check engine warning on
  • Vehicle may refuse to enter ready mode
  • Engine runs continuously, no electric drive

Most likely causes

  • Sense line shorted to ground or disconnected
  • Sense fuse or link open so no voltage reaches the input
  • Battery controller measurement input defective

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0ABC means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • BC: Specific fault in that system
