P0BEE checks the phase W current sensor of the motor A inverter for a plausible zero point. GM learns the sensor offset at each start while no current flows and sets the code above 30 A (2011 Volt and 2016 tables, Type A; 2012 two-mode trucks, Type B) or above 35 A (2019 table, Type A). In GM's BAS Plus (eAssist) table P0BEE is one of the faults that switch current control to a sensorless alternate mode, and it blocks the phase sum check P0BFD. Jeep lists P0BEE as Drive Motor A Inverter Phase W Current Sensor Circuit Performance on the 2020 Renegade and Compass 1.3 PHEV (EMEA), with turtle and Service 4WD lights, fixed by a hybrid control processor update.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp
- Turtle (limp home) light and Service 4WD light (Jeep)
- Reduced electric drive power
Most likely causes
- Hybrid control processor software (Jeep bulletin 08-056-21/08-057-21)
- Zero offset of the phase W current sensor drifted beyond the limit
- Faulty sensing electronics in the power inverter module
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0BEE means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- B: Subsystem depends on the code range
- EE: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep driving with code P0BEE?
If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
What causes code P0BEE?
The most common causes are: hybrid control processor software (Jeep bulletin 08-056-21/08-057-21); zero offset of the phase W current sensor drifted beyond the limit; faulty sensing electronics in the power inverter module.
