P0CD2: Charge Port Door A Unlock Control Circuit Performance

P0CD2 is a functional test: after commanding charge flap A to unlock, the module waits for the position sensor to report the flap open. GM documents it for the Chevrolet Volt. The 2011 table allows 5 seconds, the 2012 and 2013 tables 13 seconds, and the 2013 version only runs above minus 12 °C. The test is skipped while P0CCC, P0CCE, P0CCF or P0CD1 is active, so P0CD2 means the electrics look fine but the flap did not move. It is a Type B code with the lamp after two trips. Frozen or binding flaps are a typical cause: GM bulletin PI0936 covers 2013 Volts whose flap would not open in the cold because of a misaligned hinge pin, and Porsche replaced jamming flap switching elements on the 918 Spyder.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the car is running normally, drive in moderation to a repair shop. If it loses power or another warning appears, do not continue.

Symptoms

  • Flap does not open, especially in frost
  • Warning lamp after two trips (GM Volt)

Most likely causes

  • Flap frozen, stuck to the seal or binding at the hinge
  • Weak or mechanically blocked unlock actuator
  • Misaligned charge port housing or hinge pin (GM PI0936)
  • Position sensor not registering the open flap

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium

What each character of P0CD2 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • D2: Specific fault in that system
