P0D41 is reserved for an input voltage sensor A signal at charger A that is intermittent or erratic, i.e. it jumps or drops out briefly. No manufacturer documents this code with set conditions; GM and Mitsubishi only use P0D3E-P0D40 for this sensor. GM's information bulletin 12-08-45-001A shows how unstable household supplies appear in practice: electrical noise on the AC line can disturb charging on the Volt, ELR and Spark EV, sometimes together with P0D3F or P0D3E. CARB's rules for input components cover such signal faults in general. Possible causes are poor contacts between inlet and charger, a degrading sensor in the charger, or a noisy supply. Charging may stop and restart unpredictably; driving continues.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- Charging stops and restarts unpredictably
- Fault appears only at one charging location
Most likely causes
- Electrical noise or poor grounding on the AC supply
- Loose contact between charge inlet and charger
- Voltage measurement in the charger degrading
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
What each character of P0D41 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- D: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 41: Specific fault in that system
