P0E00 is the general circuit code for the current sensor in phase U of the generator. Each phase sensor, usually a Hall-type device inside the inverter, outputs a voltage around a mid-point when no current flows. No manufacturer documents P0E00 publicly. Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV shows how its generator unit judges the U-phase sensor: at standstill below 20 rpm with the IGBTs off the signal must stay between 2.3 and 2.7 V (P0E01-00 after 0.32 s), and readings of 0.5 V and lower, or 4.5 V and higher, held for 0.2 s set P0E02-00 or P0E03-00. P0E00 is meant for circuit faults outside these categories. Without the signal the inverter cannot regulate generator torque properly. Phases V and W are P0E04 and P0E08.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the battery warning light comes on, you could get stranded. Turn off electrical accessories and go straight to a repair shop.
Symptoms
- Hybrid system warning and engine warning light
- Generator switched off, reduced performance
- Vehicle may not reach ready mode
Most likely causes
- Supply or reference fault of the current sensor
- Defective phase U current sensor inside the inverter
- Faulty internal connection between sensor and control board
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0E00 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- E: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 00: Specific fault in that system
