P0E92: Drive Motor B Inverter Voltage Sensor B Circuit Range/Performance

P0E92 is stored when voltage sensor B of the drive motor B inverter gives a reading inside its electrical range that does not fit the other voltage values of the high-voltage system. No manufacturer documents P0E92 publicly. The closest published test is Mitsubishi's plausibility check P0DA4, written for the first voltage channel of the rear motor in the 2023 Outlander PHEV: with the boost converter off, the rear inverter voltage is compared with capacitor 1 and both capacitor 2 channels of the front unit, and a difference of 100 V or more to each of them for 0.2 s counts; the hints name the rear motor unit, battery management and the power drive unit. For drive motor A the same fault on sensor B is P0E8D. A drifting measurement or a wrong reference elsewhere are both possible, so all channels should be compared.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • MIL and hybrid or EV system warning
  • Second drive motor switched off, reduced acceleration

Most likely causes

  • Voltage channel B of the motor B inverter drifts
  • Internal fault of the motor B inverter or motor unit
  • Wrong comparison value from battery management or the front power electronics

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0E92 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • E: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 92: Specific fault in that system
