P22E2: Cylinder 3 Alternative Fuel Injector Control Circuit Low

P22E2 is logged when the control circuit of the cylinder 3 gas injector reads low. In TransEco Energy's AFCM table the cause column says shorted to ground or open, the MIL comes on in bi-fuel systems and the reaction copies that for a gasoline injector fault. Ford's 2014 code list lists P22E2 as a MIL code. Because a grounded control wire can leave the injector energized, cylinder 3 may be flooded with gas; the catalyst then gets unburnt fuel, and prolonged driving in gas mode is a bad idea. With a broken wire the cylinder is simply starved. Typical spots are chafe points against brackets or the intake manifold. P22E3 is the high side and P22E1 the pure open-circuit code; the gasoline injector uses P0267.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If you smell gas, do not keep driving or start the engine: move away and call for assistance. With no smell, drive moderately to an authorized shop.

Cylinder 3 is numbered according to the manufacturer: check your engine's manual before working on it.

Symptoms
