P2625: Injector Control Pressure Regulator Circuit High

With P2625 the module sees the injection pressure regulator circuit at too high a level: the switched line is shorted to battery voltage, or the IPR coil draws more current than the driver allows. No manufacturer documents this code publicly; Ford's 6.0 L Power Stroke summaries from 2003 to 2009 fold every IPR driver fault into P2623, and International's HEUI truck engines report through their own codes. The regulator matters because it alone decides how much oil pressure reaches the injectors; Navistar's HEUI design lets that pressure be set independently of engine speed. If the PCM cannot pull the IPR coil, rail pressure stays near minimum, so the engine may not start at all. CARB treats such hydraulic pressure control as part of fuel system monitoring.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and go to a repair shop. If you smell fuel or the engine is shaking badly, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Long cranking or no-start
  • Low power, engine may stall
  • Malfunction indicator lamp on

Most likely causes

  • IPR control line shorted to a battery-voltage circuit
  • IPR coil with reduced resistance causing overcurrent
  • Faulty IPR driver in the PCM

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2625 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 6: Control modules and outputs
  • 25: Specific fault in that system
