Some engine controllers store the serial number of the engine they belong to, much like the VIN. P264F is logged when that entry is empty or does not fit. Ford Special Service Message 47823 covers 2013 to 2019 E-Series, Super Duty, F-53/F-59 and F-650/750 models: after a PCM replacement the MIL comes on with P264F until the engine serial number, taken from the build records in OASIS, is written into the new PCM with the Ford scan tool. Ford's 2023 diesel OBD summary groups the code with P0630 under vehicle configuration, and Ford's 2014 gasoline list marks it with MIL. GM's 2024 heavy-duty ECM tables set it when any stored serial digit still reads 0xFF, checked continuously, Type A after one trip. It is a configuration fault, not mechanical damage.
