P2727: Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Circuit/Open

P2727 is set when the control circuit of solenoid E is open, so no current can flow through the coil. GM's eight-speed table checks the clutch 5 valve for an open-circuit flag over 0.3 s, and on the Allison 1000 the test on PCS 1 is rated Type A. The 2023 Corvette dual-clutch TCM looks at its system pressure pilot valve while switched off: a sense voltage between roughly 1.7 and 3.0 V means open load, confirmed after 150 ms (Type A). Ford's TR9070 maps open load of its line pressure pilot valve to the same code. A field case without wiring damage exists: GM's PIP5646 series for 2019-2020 Silverado and Sierra with the 8L90 names P2727 among the codes behind sudden rear-wheel lock-up and replaces the TCM.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • MIL on and limp-home gear
  • Rear wheels may lock at low speed (GM 8L90 case)
  • Harsh or missing shifts

Most likely causes

  • Broken wire or backed-out pin
  • Open winding in solenoid E
  • Internal TCM fault (GM 8L90, PIP5646)
  • Connector not latched

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2727 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • 27: Specific fault in that system
