P2729: Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Circuit Low

P2729 indicates the control line of solenoid E is pulled low, usually by a short to ground. On the Allison 1000 GM detects this when the output connection has almost no impedance to ground and confirms it within 75 ms (Type A). The eight-speed and six-speed tables of 2016 flag the low state for 0.3 s and set it after one trip. For the 2023 Corvette dual-clutch transmission, a sense voltage below roughly 1.7 V with the driver on, held for 150 ms, identifies a ground short at the system pressure pilot valve (Type A); Ford's TR9070 stores its shorted switch case under this number. GM bulletin PIP5646B for 2019-2020 Silverado and Sierra 8L90 shows that P2729 can also come from a failing TCM rather than the harness.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • MIL on and fail-safe mode
  • Abrupt stop or wheel lock at low speed in the GM 8L90 case
  • Limited gear selection

Most likely causes

  • Control wire shorted to ground
  • Shorted winding in solenoid E
  • TCM internal failure (GM 8L90)
  • Conductive contamination in the connector

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2729 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • 29: Specific fault in that system
