P2720: Pressure Control Solenoid D Control Circuit Low

P2720 reports a low signal on the control line of solenoid D, which in practice is a short to ground. GM's 2016 eight-speed table sets it on the clutch 4 valve after a 0.3 s ground-short flag within one trip; the six-speed tables do the same for their valve D. On the 2023 Corvette dual-clutch transmission the TCM checks the line while the low-side driver is on: if the sense voltage stays under about 1.7 V for at least 100 ms, the even-clutch shutdown valve is shorted to ground (Type A). Ford's TR9070 logs its shorted switch case under this code. GM's service update N182193520 names P2720 next to P2718 when the 8L45/8L90 valve body connector is not fully latched, so a poor connection can produce it as well as a pinched wire.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • MIL on and limp-home operation
  • Limited forward gears
  • Harsh shifts

Most likely causes

  • Control wire pinched or chafed against ground
  • Valve body connector not fully seated
  • Internally shorted solenoid D
  • TCM driver fault

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2720 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • 20: Specific fault in that system
