P2736: Pressure Control Solenoid F Control Circuit/Open

P2736 points to an open control circuit on solenoid F, meaning the coil path is interrupted. GM documents the code for several gearboxes. On the eight-speed of 2016 valve F is the line pressure solenoid, and an open-circuit flag for 0.3 s within 0.5 s sets the fault in one trip. In 25OBDG03A the same valve drives clutches on the nine- and ten-speed or switches the CVT's binary pump, and an impedance above 200 kOhm to ground over the same window is a Type A fault. The Corvette dual-clutch TCM tests its clutch cooling valve while switched off and flags open load at a sense voltage of roughly 1.7 to 3.0 V for 150 ms. Ford's TR9070 uses P2736 for open load on the odd clutch cooling valve. Line pressure faults usually bring a limp mode.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • MIL on and limp-home mode
  • Firm shifts from maximum line pressure or missing gears

Most likely causes

  • Broken wire or pushed-back terminal
  • Valve body connector not fully seated
  • Open winding in solenoid F
  • Internal TCM fault

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2736 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • 36: Specific fault in that system
