P2AF6 is the reverse fault on relay C: commanded to switch, the relay does not change state. Stellantis names it Starter Relay 3 Stuck Off, on some Wagoneers Dual Starter Relay Stuck. During an auto-start the PCM energises the relay to split the batteries; if it then finds hardly any gap between the auxiliary and the main battery voltages, the relay evidently stayed put, so P2AF6 is stored with MIL and stop-start shuts down. Bulletin 08-138-23 traced it on 2022–2023 Wagoneers to connector D3157A at the power distribution centre that had not clicked fully into place. The RAM 1500 2025 with the 3.0 L Hurricane and stop-start and later Wagoneers got PCM software that lets the permanent code clear. A drained auxiliary battery can also produce false fails.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If it starts normally you can keep driving, but avoid stopping anywhere you could not get help, because it might not restart.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Stop-start disabled
- Occasional failure to restart after an auto-stop
Most likely causes
- Power distribution centre connector not fully seated
- PCM software needing an update
- Depleted auxiliary battery causing a false fail
- Power control relay not switching
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: easy
What each character of P2AF6 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- A: Hybrid or air and fuel
- F6: Specific fault in that system
