P0A2E: Drive Motor A Temperature Sensor A Circuit Intermittent

P0A2E flags short jumps or dropouts in the motor A temperature signal that are too brief or too erratic for the low/high checks. Bentley documents it for the Bentayga PHEV and Flying Spur Hybrid 2020-23: the resistance in the sensor crimp changes suddenly at high temperature, and only the sensor has to be replaced, although the engine and gearbox come out to reach it. Audi lists it on the 2021-22 A7 e quattro together with P0A4000 and/or P0A2B00, caused by contact wear in a coupling connector, fixed with new gold-plated pins. Siblings: P0A2C/P0A2D for a steady out-of-range signal, P2DB0 for sensor B. The car shows a MIL or HV warning and may limit electric drive.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light or high-voltage warning in the cluster
  • Fault comes and goes, often after hard driving
  • Gearbox or electric drive warning on some models

Most likely causes

  • Worn contacts in a coupling connector of the sensor line (Audi A7 e quattro)
  • Resistance jumps in the sensor crimp at high temperature (Bentley hybrids)
  • Chafed or loosely routed sensor wire with intermittent contact

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0A2E means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • 2E: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

What causes code P0A2E?

The most common causes are: worn contacts in a coupling connector of the sensor line (Audi A7 e quattro); resistance jumps in the sensor crimp at high temperature (Bentley hybrids); chafed or loosely routed sensor wire with intermittent contact.
