P0D82: Battery Charger Input Circuit Low

P0D82 reports that the charger's input circuit signal has dropped below the lowest value the module accepts as electrically valid. No manufacturer documents this code publicly; Ford, for instance, folds missing input into P0D80 with its 85 VAC/30 s limit. By analogy with other circuit-low codes, the cause is usually in the measuring path: a sense line shorted to ground, moisture or corrosion at the inlet terminals, or a failed input stage inside the charger. That separates P0D82 from P0D27, which judges a real but weak mains supply, and from P0D3F, which is reserved for the input voltage sensor circuit itself. CARB asks for such circuit faults on charger inputs to be detected. To the driver the result is a charge that will not begin or ends early.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Charging does not start
  • Charging ends earlier than expected
  • Charging fault message

Most likely causes

  • Input sense line or harness shorted to ground
  • Moisture or corrosion at the charge inlet terminals
  • Failed input stage inside the on-board charger

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

What each character of P0D82 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • D: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 82: Specific fault in that system
