P0D83 is set when the charger reads its input circuit above the highest electrically valid level, i.e. a reading the measuring stage could not produce from a healthy mains connection. No manufacturer publishes a threshold for it. Likely culprits are a sense line shorted to a voltage source, a damaged inlet whose pins bridge to one another, or a measuring channel in the charger that has drifted or failed. P0D28 should be kept apart: it rates a real mains voltage above what the charger accepts, whereas P0D83 doubts the signal itself; P0D40 is the matching fault of the separate input voltage sensor. Because the charger cannot trust the reading, it normally refuses to convert power, so the battery stays uncharged while driving is unaffected.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- Charger refuses to charge
