P0DF3: Generator Inverter Temperature Sensor C Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

P0DF3 is logged when sensor C in the generator inverter delivers an unsteady signal: short spikes, gaps or values that change faster than the module temperature ever could. Such faults often start at connectors that loosen under engine vibration and repeated heating cycles, or at pins attacked by moisture. No manufacturer documents P0DF3 publicly, and Mitsubishi, which does monitor a W-phase sensor in its generator unit, defines no intermittent code for it. CARB requires these thermal inputs to be monitored nonetheless. The warning may vanish after a restart and return days later, so it pays to note when and under which load it appeared. Constant faults of the same sensor are P0DF2, P0DF8 and P0DF9; the matching fault on sensor B is P0DF1.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Warning light that appears only now and then
  • Brief drops in generator power
  • Code stored as history fault without current symptoms

Most likely causes

  • Terminal losing contact under vibration or heat cycles
  • Moisture or corrosion in the inverter connector
  • Intermittent connection inside the inverter module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0DF3 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • D: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • F3: Specific fault in that system
